What is Kenpo Karate?

Kenpo is one of the most effective methods of unarmed defence and counter attack yet devised by man, the practitioner depending solely on the deadly efficiency of his trained and toughened bare hands, elbows, knees and feet.

At a fair level of proficiency the Kenpo student can defend themselves successfully against a number of opponents simultaneously, because of the great speed and power with which Kenpo offensive techniques can be delivered.

Kenpo in defence can be deadly but the safeguard against its misuse is in the manner of the weapon employed. You cannot walk into a shop and purchase it, you have to make it yourself. It must be forged on an anvil of self-imposed discipline and training. The more time and effort spent the finer the result.

Fitness and Kenpo

It is not important if you are badly out of condition at the moment, whether you are male or female, young or old, provided you are medically fit (sound heart and lungs etc.) and have a genuine keen desire to practice self-defence properly, then American Kenpo Karate can help you do so.

Kenpo is no longer practiced purely as a method of self-defence and unarmed combat, but also as a physical art par-excellence due to the great degree of skill and control exhibited by the Kenpo exponent as a fast exciting combat sport.

The benefits to be accrued from Kenpo practice go far beyond the purely physical. The experienced practitioner of the martial arts attains a high degree of spiritual and physical awareness. They radiate confidence, self-control and assurance.

Their body and mind are enlightened with a new sense of well being, which manifests itself in everything they do in their everyday life. Co-ordination sharpens, reflexes become lightning fast. Breath control, muscle tone and strength improve rapidly. It increases the appetite and ensures good health, a contributing factor to a longer life span.

Through diligence and conscientious practice, confidence will eliminate all fears and overcome desires of aggression. Proof of your ability becomes unnecessary when you are confident and assured of your capabilities and potential.

It is hoped that with an unquestioned ability to defend yourself, fighting will be placed further down your list of priorities. Just remember that it takes a far better person to walk away from trouble than to move towards it, to walk away with dignity, confident of the outcome had the issue been forced.
