So…. Transport and Technical Services have now employed yet another Chief Officer at a salary of £124,000 a year. John Rogers has now taken up his new position after six months as acting Chief Officer. His responsibilities will include the management of 650 staff and will control a budget of £25 million. His biggest project will be the implementation of the new energy from waste plant. It is without doubt the biggest financial commitment that the States of Jersey have undertaken to date. And it has not been without controversy, from the potential cost escalating out of control to the allegations of pollution of our RAMSAR shore line. A quote from Save Our Shoreline website states that they have received evidence from the former EfW Site Project Manager's Consultant confirming their gravest concerns regarding the ongoing discharge of contaminated waters into the Channel Island's first UN Ramsar Wetland of International Importance. If these allegations are proven to be based on factual evidence ..as their website would suggest… then I would hope that the our new Chief Officer at TTS will act accordingly to prevent this sort of ecological vandalism from happening in the future and will endeavour to protect our unique and valuable local environment.
